Shaky Wireless Connection?
My wireless internet connection keeps conking out randomly. Its sourced from a router two rooms away. I know its not the ISP because all the other computers in my house have a steady connection, its just mine that sort of dies out, as if the router stops recognizing my computer
. It doesn’t come back on until I restart my computer. Its kind of annoying when I play socom and wow, but its still there when I’m trying to do my bio hw :’( Anyone got any tips, tricks, solutions or whatever for upholding a consistent connection? Thanks in advance.
It doesn’t make a difference if you have 6 computers using the same wireless source. As they share, the bandwidth alloted to each computer just gets smaller. I have 4 computers running at all times at my home (2 wireless, 2 hardwired) and everything runs fine.
My guess is that you have an older Linksys wireless router. I would also guess that you have a B or older G series router.
Linksys had a whole bunch of problems with these model routers and I used to have the same problem. I now have a new G series router and everything works great.
I would suggest a Dlink router, or a newer Linksys router.
It is important that you keep in mind a couple of details when using wireless routers.
1. most wireless routers work at 2.4 MHz. This means that they work at the same ferquency that your microwave and cordless phones work. I did change to 5.8 on my cordless phones.
2. The routers antenna need to be “tuned”. By this I mean that while you are in the room where you work, have your signal strength meter on and have someone slowly adjust the antenna(s) so that you receive the best signal. Mine look like they are in really stupid positions, but I get signal all over a 3 story home
3. if you are seperated buy a ductwork access point, where all the ductwork maybe runs down a wall, I would suggest relocating your router. The aluminum redirects the signal in weird ways.
4. You may also need to reconfig your router. Most routers work better as a secured router. Having a password helps the router better deal with it’s wireless signal.
Hope this helps
