How do you obtain DNS through a bridge connection?
I decided to get the old PS2 out and play some online SOCOM 3. I want to connect my PS2 to my wireless internet on my PC. So I looked it up and found that I have to make a bridge connection. So I did so and everything seemed fine. I went onto the network configurations settings on the game and tried auto detect which didn’t work. So then I manually entered the info but when I went on my PC to check the info for the IP and all, it only shows the IP and Subnet which looks like this: IP Address 169.254.199.246 Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 Default gateway (blank) DNS Server (Blank)
This is the info when I remove the wireless connection from the bridge: IP Address 192.168.1.105
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server 192.168.1.1 DNS Server 68.87.73.246
Also, I am not connecting to a router that I have in the house. Its just a Linksys connection… maybe that’s the problem?
169.254.199.246 is a private Microsoft IP address and is not normally used by any commercial router. This usually happens when a DHCP address request is sent to the server and an IP address is not returned in the allowed time, then the computer will time out and use a Microsoft address. This will not allow access to the Internet.
The 192.168.1.105 is one of the default DHCP addresses given out by a Linksys router. If you entered a static IP address in the PS2, then you would also need to add a static IP address to the Ethernet port on the PC. Then bridge the wireless and the wired connection on the PC. I also assume that you are using a cross-over cable. Make sure that the IP addresses that you use are high enough that the Linksys will not hand out those addresses when it receives a DHCP request.
