If you got a GameStop card, went there, traded in all those games, your console, and the memory card, you probably wont get more then $100. The PS2 is old, and so are those games. If a game isn’t new, or isn’t in any sort of demand, they won’t give you much because it’s not profitable. The GameStop card will give you an extra 10%, but still, you got a while to go before you can buy a 360.

The 360 Pro/Premium which is $300 is enough for save games, downloadable games, downloadable content, demos, trailers, and a good amount of music. The new 60GB drive is larger then the old 20GB one that I have, so you should be fine, but don’t start downloading 20 multi-gigabyte demos, and getting all these movie rentals.

Honestly, I recommend that you save up your money and do eventually purchase a 360 or PS3 (which is only $400 now), because the PS2 continues to die and everything is moving to current gen. If you’re a kid and live at home with your parents like myself, consider asking them for a console, or at the very least making some sort of deal that you’ll trade in your PS2 and games, put some of your own money together, and they’ll pick up the rest. And if you’re old enough, get a job. That’s how I managed to pay for my 360, non-gaming PC, and PS3.
