What’s with the long handguns in The Punisher?

I’m used to seeing semi-auto/gas-operated pistols that look fairly short, like 3-5 inch barrels, with only old guns like revolvers ever any longer. In The Punisher, though, Castle has two Colt 1911′s that look like they’re 6-7 inches, which I’ve never seen before. Is there a company that makes them like that already? Do they maybe make the Mark 23 (the SOCOM), or a variation of it, with a longer barrel like that, since it’s supposed to shoot 2″ groups at 50 yards so it could be used by Special Forces as a “real” weapon? I’m just wondering, because, for one, I’m interested in fire-arms in general, and two, I might want a longer handgun when I go in the service, if I were to go into any of the Combat Arms MOS’s If there were any real advantages to it, that is. And yes, I already thought about problems getting it out of the holster. That’s why I would purchase a soft holster, cut some of the top of the front off of it, and keep the button snapped when I don’t need it.

I believe that they were compensator’s for the recoil. Not sure who makes them tho sorry.
